This concept was quite present in the Vedic Method of Astrology.

Mangalik Dosh means the afflictions due to the positioning of the planet Mars in the native chart.

The rule is:

If mars is posited in the 1st or 4th or 7th or 8th or 12th house from the Lagna (always count in the anti-clockwise direction from Lagna, taking Lagna house as the first house), then we say that Mangalik Dosh is present in the horoscope of the native. If this is present, then it will create problem for the spouse. In many case, if acute Mangalik Dosh is present, then the spouse may die for such natives. So the astrologer needs to assess carefully the existence of this Mangalik Dosh.

It is better to consult professional astrologers to assess the actual existence of Mangalik Dosh in the native’s horoscope as many a people just conclude from the above positioning of Mars in the horoscope that Mangalik Dosh is present in the native chart.

There are other considerations as regards planetary positions of planets such as Moon, Venus, Saturn and Jupiter in the native chart other than Mars, which quell the effects of Mangalik Dosh. 

In the above back drop, though Mangalik Dosh for a native is not at all good for the spouse, it is better to know perfectly whether the native possesses Mangalik Dosh or not.

Secondly, by chance you could observe that, from all planetary positions other than the positioning of Mars as stated above, the native has a Mangalik Dosh then one should find a spouse for conducting marriage who possesses Mangalik Dosh also. No marriages should be recommended between a Mangalik and a Non-Mangalik.
