Home Kalasarpa Dosh

‘Kala’ means time. ‘Sarpa’ means snake. ‘Dosh’ means affliction. So Kalasarpa Dosh means an affliction mainly of the characteristics of that of a snake. The occurrence of this affliction is due to a typical placement of the planets in the Native Chart.

Recommendation:

This Dosh or affliction is not explained by the sages Parashara, Bhrigu or Jaimini. It is also not stated by Varahamihira either. However, many modern astrologers talk about this yoga. Some say Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru did possess this Dosh, and hence people can be indifferent of this affliction.
How does this occur?

If all the 7 planets Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupitor, Venus and Saturn are hemmed within Rahu and Ketu in the native chart, then it is said that Kalasarpa Dosh is existing.

How to ensure?
You should see the placement of planets starting from the anti-clock-wise direction: Rahu, seven planets and then Ketu.  Always mark that Rahu is the first planet to occur and Ketu is the last one.

Secondly, see that any planets where Rahu is posited should have degrees more than Rahu. Say in Gemini, Rahu is 15 degrees. Let us say Mars is also there. Its position should be more than 15 degrees.

In a similar way, where Ketu is posited, if other planets are also present there, they should have degrees less than Ketu. For example, say Ketu is in Sagittarius, and has 15 degrees. Then if moon is in placed in Sagittarius, then it should have degrees less than 15.

If these two conditions are met with, then one can ensure that Kalasarpa Dosh is present in the Native Chart.
